”My son, keep thy father’s commandment, And forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, And tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; When thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; And when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; And reproofs of instruction are the way of life: To keep thee from the evil woman, From the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.” – Proverbs 6:20-24
Whoever keeps the law [of God and man] is a wise son, but he who is a companion of gluttons and the carousing, self-indulgent, and extravagant shames his father. The wise in heart will accept and obey commandments, but the foolish of lips will fall headlong. He who walks uprightly walks securely, but he who takes a crooked way shall be found out and punished.
And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left. Listen, obey, and incline your ears to the instruction received. “You must love the Lord your God and always obey His requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands. If you carefully obey the commands you’re given today, and serve God with all your heart and soul, then He will send the rains in their proper seasons—Be careful to obey God’s command and you will enjoy a long life in the land of the living. The Lord our God we shall [reverently] fear; then He will deliver us out of the hands of all our enemies. Hear the word of the Lord and persistently obey Him.
Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; guard her, for she is your life. He who heeds instruction and correction is [not only himself] in the way of life [but also] is a way of life for others. And he who neglects or refuses reproof [not only himself] goes astray [but also] causes to err and is a path toward ruin for others.
Dear Lord, give me understanding, that I may keep Your law; yes, I will observe it with my whole heart. In Jesus’s name, Amen
